Search Engine Optimisation Tips for One-Way Linking

Link popularity is a critical aspect of off-page search engine optimisation. This popularity is dependant on the number of links pointing to your web pages. At least, this is what most search engines take into consideration when ranking pages for result listings. If you have popular or highly-relevant websites pointing towards your pages, you have a better chance of procuring top rankings. Google users should remember that incoming links is a big determinant of your PageRank, another measure of success with this search engine.

One-way linking is a process wherein you get links pointing to your site without having to reciprocate the link. It is highly advantageous as you are in a win-win situation – your site is being promoted without you having to return the 'favour'. When you go about acquiring one-way links, it is imperative to remember that such links will be beneficial only if they come from sites that are good quality and have subject matter that is relevant to your business or industry at large.

Considered to be a just and open way of link building, one-way links are of huge significance in search engine optimisation services. In fact, many search engines are biased towards websites that have valuable one-way links. The following tips will help you strategise the process of getting one-way links that matter:

- Try submitting articles in ezines or other online directories. Go for the free ones as you will be in an advantageous position even if your write-ups don't work. When you submit articles into popular directories, you can get a link back that will be substantial for your optimisation campaign.

- Write content that is informative and impelling. When other webmasters go through your website, they should be lured enough to place your link on their site.

- Get into directory submissions and get links from these directories. When you submit your site's URL into online directories, users visiting them will be redirected to your web pages. This is one of the most effective techniques in search engine optimisation.

- If you make an online purchase, write a nice testimonial with regard to the product or service you have used. Use the URL of your website in the write-up. By doing so, you will have the chance of getting a link back from the vendor, who'll be more than happy to publish your comments on his site.

These simple tactics can be quite effective if put to good use. However, you need to pick the right sites and directories for link building, because this decision will eventually determine the success of your campaign.

Search Engine Optimizers... Beware!

Search engine optimization is gaining immense popularity as an online marketing service. An increasing number of businesses are getting involved in it, lured by high revenues and maximised returns on investment.

Although the online marketplace is flooded with service providers in this field, very few actually know the dos and don'ts of this process. SEO can be a very rewarding investment for those venturing into web business promotion. However, the use of wrong techniques can get your site supplemented, blacklisted or even banned by search engines.

The following is a list of activities that should be avoided by optimizers in order to be successful with this process:

1) When creating meta tags, do not stuff them with keywords. Your keywords and phrases should be incorporated judiciously and in an acceptable manner. Meta tags should not be created just for the process of optimization; they should have some relevancy too.

2) Avoid the use of keywords in hidden text of your web pages. Even though these words will not be visible to the lay user, search engines do crawl them and index pages for better rankings. This technique is regarded unethical because this text matter usually is not pertinent to the page in question.

3) The keywords of your business should be effortlessly incorporated in the content of your web pages. Do not overdo their usage as the content then looks highly promotional in nature.

4) Link building is one of the main off-page services of search engine optimization. When you set out to link with other websites, avoid being linked to 'bad neighbourhoods' like link farms. You cannot stop any site from linking to you. But, you can regulate the quality of sites you reach out to. If you link your site to a link farm, there are chances that the search engines might ban you.

5) Do not get into link exchange with blacklisted or banned sites. By doing so, you stand the risk of being penalised or even blacklisted by a search engine network.

As an optimizer, you are solely responsible for the 'character' of your website. Even though not everything can be controlled or regulated at your end, you should always tread the acceptable path and do away with the lure of quick traffic or revenues.

Increase Return Traffic to Strengthen SEO Services

When businesses get into search engine marketing, their main objective is driving new visitors to their website. Almost all optimisation strategies devised by webmasters are centered around the same objective, and this is possibly the greatest mistake they can make. It is true that new visitors pep up the traffic influx of a website; but is it wise to neglect the importance of old visitors?

Apart from catering to new users, webmasters have to formulate strategies to bring back old users in the form of return traffic. All web users have certain favourite websites, that they access frequently for daily doses of information and entertainment related to their fields of interest. If webmasters can get their sites to this level, it'll definitely spell success for their SEO campaigns.

Web analytics is one service that can be extremely useful in driving return users to your site. It'll help you analyse prevalent online trends and customer behaviour. The log files of your website will also provide a good insight into visitor reactions, thus helping you identify pages that are retaining or repelling users.

People who bookmark your pages are quite likely to come back once in a while. Buyers - prospective or otherwise – will, in all likelihood, visit your site more than once. Return traffic also fosters viral marketing - when users buy something from you, they talk about it to their family, friends and peers, thus publicising your business by word of mouth.

Retaining users is not as easy a task as it sounds to be. Your website should have appealing content matter; something that users have not read elsewhere, something that interests them enough to make a return visit, and above all, something that benefits them. You also need to upgrade your site constantly, catering to latest SEO service guidelines and design techniques. By doing so, you can ensure that users will not find your site boring or static.

It is also imperative that you do away with elements that irk visitors. Things like drop-down menus, scrollers, dragable objects, colours, fonts, etc. have to be dealt with smartly. Review the content of your site periodically. This will help effective Search engine optimizationredirects as much as possible.

When people come back to your website, they would definitely not like to see the same mistakes on your pages. Let your users feel refreshed after every visit to your site. This return traffic will ultimately go on to benefit your campaign in a major way. Use it to your advantage!

Your site's URL can determine SEO success

Uniform Resource Locator, or URL is the web address of a hyperlink. It is a unique code that helps a web browser to identify a particular page from billions of web pages floating in the online marketplace.

When it comes to search engine optimization, URLs can play a pivotal role in bringing your website on top of SERPs. This code is not just a location; it is the identity of a web page. Therefore, optimizing a URL is as important as working on other Meta Tags of your page.

SEO experts say that long URLs should always be avoided, especially when you name your homepage. Most search engines regard long names as spam because typing them is a tedious task for human beings. This is the reason why most SERPs do not show long names in their topmost listings.

It is advisable to use your main keywords in your site's URLs. However, be sure you are not engaging in keyword stuffing because search engines do not prefer such coding. Use a name that is logical and in syndication with the content on a page, or the product you are selling.

Search engine optimizers need to pay extra attention to their dynamic URLs. Pages that are frequently updated (shopping cart pages, news pages, etc.) should be clearly specified to a search engine, because their web addresses change almost everyday, and in some cases, many times in a day. Such pages can be identified with a '?' in their URLs.

Search engines usually prefer static pages over dynamic ones. For the latter, it is advisable to rewrite the URLs so that you get noticed by the search engine spider. Because, it would otherwise take months to get indexed and ranked time and again. However, the former will be automatically re-crawled by the spider and hence ranked better.

Certain search engines like Google do not prefer to index dynamic pages if they have more than two parameters in the URL. In fact, many search websites do not crawl such pages for fear of getting entangled in a web that alters at will. Google, for a fact, does not follow links that have session IDs embedded in them. In such cases, it is best to change your server code and use URL optimization to come out of this trap.

The most simple solution is - create static pages with hard-coded links to your important dynamic pages. By doing so, you can help your visitors in finding out a product-specific page. Always remember, the key to SEO success is being visible on, and accessible to search engines.
